Trying

This book serves as a printed memory of the oeuvre of the artist Emilio López-Menchero (°1960, Mol). It documents and illustrates a selection of exhibitions, artistic projects and public performances created in the past 25 years. Conceptually, the book is based on a statement by which López considers each of his actions a test against reality, an ‘attempt’. Within this context, the title of each project is consequently preceded by the prefix ‘Trying to -’; ‘Trying to situate’, ‘Trying to light up’, ‘Trying to question’,... By trying to infiltrate daily context, López-Menchero aims to generate new situations, confront with reality and contemplate on the meaning of art. Included in the book are essays and texts by Luk Lambrecht, Hans Theys and Koen Van Synghel.
