Lezersrecensie
gemengde gevoelens, mixed feelings

So of course this book is more fun to read and makes more sense when you’ve read the other shadowhunter books. You’ll understand all the cameo’s and references. You should especially read the infernal devives since the main characters in that trilogy are the parents of the main characters in this trilogy. I wish it wasn’t so long ago since I’ve read chain of gold and chain of iron. I definitely needed to look things up in the wiki from time to time. I enjoyed reading this book, getting to know the cast even better is mostly what makes it enjoyable. It doesn’t feel like a finale though. The ending is very open with a lot of loose ends. You’re left with a lot of questions instead of answers. And without a definitive and reliable family tree for any of the families. This feels like a setup for a next book instead of wrapping everything up and having the epilogue feeling like everyone’s happy ending like in a fairytale. You can’t help rooting for all of the couples: James and Cordelia, Ari and Anna, Thomas and Alastair. So yes, even after sort of another unsatisfying cliffhanger of an ending you’ll still be wanting more shadowhunter books. Just like a lot of people I’ll be patiently waiting for the wicked powers. Or a sequel to this could also work and fill in the gaps.
