Raymond E. Feist started in 1982 by publishing 'Magician'. It was a startling success and it became his Epos. His book series contains the following trilogies: The Riftwar Saga, The Empire Trilogy (with Janny Wurts), Krondor's Sons, The Serpentwar Saga, The Riftwar Legacy, Legends of the Riftwar, Conclave of Shadows, Darkwar Saga, Demonwar Saga and Chaoswar Saga. All of them are 'stand alone' trilogies that can be read without the need to read the others, but it becomes so much more if you do read all of them. Off course it then becomes a thirty book journey in which you follow the life of a lot of characters, but above all the life of Pug and Tomas. You follow Pug's journey as he becomes the greatest sorcerer of Midkemia en Kelewan. Midkemia the planet he was born to and Kelewan as the planet he learned his craft. And you follow the story of Tomas, a human who became a mix of human and Valheru, or Dragon Lord, by finding the magical armour of a Valheru. By donning the armour of the Dragon Lord Ashen-Shugar, he becomes one with the now extinct Dragon Lord, almost overwhelmed by his mind. The last book starts with Pug, Magnus (his son) and Demon turned human Belog and Child (in respective human form of Nakor and Miranda) triggering a trap on the island of the benevolent Panthatians and the Sven-Ga'ri. The trap destroys the island and its inhabitants, but Magnus has eracted a magiacal barrier and saved the four. They end up on another planet and a unexpected guide who guides them to a vortex. They are to use the vortex to learn about themselves, but are warned they might end up in different places. In Rillanon the capital of the Kingdom of the Isles, the last three brothers conDoin are together, awaiting the Congress of Lords to get together and crown a new King, But Oliver is gathering his men in de valley of Aldalyn, and the Congress is stalled. Is the the pretext for a new civil war? To top it of Jimmy Dasher the head of the information network of the Isles tells them his network is still in disarray after the happenings in the former book, but he does know that there seem to be something wrong in E'bar, the new home to the star elves. Martin decides to go there and see for himself what is happening there. And indeed something wrong is happening at the star elves home. Something is trying to come out of a dome, and that is the driving force behind the invasion of the Demons at the start of this trilogy. In Elvandar with the elves Tomas hears the call of the Dragons, and although he could withstand it using the help of Elvandar's magic, that call has now become overwhelming and he has to go. While the civil war is about to start and the brothers conDoin try to do everything they can to prevent that, Pug, Magnus, Miranda and Nakor need to learn what they can about the threat at E'bar to make sure Midkemia survives. Reaymond E. Feist closes the book on Midkemia with an all-out bang is this latest book. I have read all of them with a lot of fun. Each year to a year and a half he has delivered a new book and added it to the series. It was quite the journey, and a lot of fun. His books are easy to read and I would recommend them to anyone who has an interest in Epic Fantasy, but didn't yet read a lot Fantasy. But also for the hardened Fantasy Reader I would not put aside these books. I found the overall arc very interesting and it surprised me what Raymond came up with this time, because the stakes get higher and higher with each trilogy added to the series.
