I finished the book because it has become an icon and reference in the genre. It might help to understand other books when they refer to this one. Apart from the fact that I just wanted to know the story, the book had little to keep me interested. No character development, no interesting points of view, no ethical development. There are some flaws in the logic as well. For example, no explanation as to why Dracula keeps the young prospector in his castle. A doctor who goes on giving transfusions in stead of secluding the victim or putting her under constant watch. No explanation either why this victim is sought out night after night in stead of seeking any other. Also if Vampires set each other on, how come they just need to kille Dracula and his ladies - and not thousands of others? I got a bit irritated by the mentions of how their fate was in Gods hands - yet they never thought of hiding the victims in a church. Anyway, the book is read, mission accomplished. On to other experiences.
